Dinner at O'Hana

We had reservations at O'Hana at the Polynesian restaurant for dinner. O'Hana means family and the entire dinner is served family style. We were served a nice crispy salad, dressed with a lime vinaigrette to start along with a bowl of (slight dry and overlooked) vegetable dumplings and some good sticky chicken wings.

If you look closely at the photo below, you can see from Sweet Pea's expression that her elbow was still bothering her a lot. She was very cranky the whole night.

Then almost immediately after sitting down we were brought our dinner side dishes (bland steamed broccoli and disgustingly sweet and mushy lo mein noodles) and offered meat from skewers.

I told the skewer bearer that we wanted to wait on the main course because it was time for a children's activity. A woman led all of the children in a parade and then organized a coconut broom race. We watched Sweet Pea closely during the event to make sure she was moving her elbow, which she did.

When we returned from the coconut race, a server came by to put the flame grilled steak, pork, chicken and shrimp on our plate. All of it was good, although a little inconsistent. Some pieces of meat were juicy and flavorful, others tough and overcooked. I guess it was hard to flame grill the meat evenly, but it wasn't a problem since it was all-you-care-to-eat and severs were continuously circulating through the dining room with more meat.

During dinner, Sweet Pea became increasingly upset about her elbow and started crying intermittently. Ross was dispatched to find some children's ibuprofen. He found a bottle at a nearby gift shop and returned to give Sweet Pea a dose.

Grandma Trudy was on a quest to get us all Hawaiian leis.

Grandma Trudy also ordered several light-up ice cubes for all of our drinks during dinner. Ross cracked all of us up by putting them in a bag and pretending that there were fairies trapped in it. He would shake the bag with a hidden hand and plead in a high-pitched voice, "Help! Let me out!"

For dessert we were served an especially tasty pineapple bread pudding with carmel sauce. There was not quite enough I've cream to go around so Grandma Trudy requested a couple of extra scoops.

I was in a hurry to get back to our canin, but On our way out, we were delayed by the Wishes Fireworks show that started over Magic Kingdom. We were able to watch it from the huge windows at the Polynesian.

And I am not sure if it was dessert or the Advil kicking in, but Sweet Pea finally started feeling better before we left.

We had a long journey home via monorail and boat and don't get back to the cabin until after midnight.
